Update Notice — Asbestos-Impacted Fire Doors
Published 10th June 2026
This notice is an update to the notice sent directly to certain customers by Best Doors Limited on 10 October 2025. If you did not receive that notice, this notice is not relevant to you.
Following our notice of 10 October 2025, we are updating the current position regarding the fire-rated doors identified in that correspondence.
The doors covered by our October notice fall within Category C — that is, fire-rated doors that have been fully installed with fire tags issued. We confirm that these doors are not subject to recall or replacement.
Both MBIE and WorkSafe have confirmed that Category C doors may comply with relevant New Zealand Building Code performance requirements, provided the core board remains effectively encapsulated and appropriate management arrangements are in place.
What is required of you as a building owner
While no replacement is required, you do have ongoing management obligations. These include:
• Adopting a blanket asbestos presence presumption for asbestos risk management purposes
• Updating your asbestos register and asbestos management plan (AMP) accordingly — or creating these documents if no asbestos was previously recorded at your premises
• Ensuring no drilling, cutting, or other works are carried out on the door core without following WorkSafe’s applicable guidance and protocols
Doors that remain in situ with the core fully encapsulated pose low to negligible health and safety risk. Risks arise only if the core is disturbed.
